Join us for a Question and Answer with our Animal Care Specialist, Lakeisha Carter. She develops our Animal Care qualifications here at Skills and Education Group.
What makes our qualifications the best choice for learners entering the animal care industry?
Our qualifications are the best choice for learners entering the animal care industry because they are designed to ensure learners have the skills and knowledge to thrive within the industry. Our qualifications have not only been developed alongside industry needs, but they also incorporate industry standards and current legislation, making them up to date and relevant, allowing learners to succeed. Not only do our learners gain skills and knowledge, but they also have the opportunity to undertake practical training and development, working hands-on with animals, providing them with both confidence and competence when progressing into employment.
What benefits do our qualifications bring to the providers delivering them?
At Skills and Education Group Awards, we aim to empower our Centres and give them the flexibility to deliver our qualifications however they deem fit, as long as they meet the assessment criteria. This allows experienced teaching staff to be creative and innovative in their delivery, engaging learners and encouraging development.
Our qualifications also offer clear progression routes, whether learners want to expand on their current knowledge, move into another specialist area or begin their animal care journey. A product is available for everyone. Throughout the learner journey, learners are supported by their Centres, which are equipped with clear assessment criteria and supporting resources, and by External Quality Assurers who understand the industry.
Which industry-valued skills do learners gain from our qualifications?
We have recognised that Employers value responsible, professional, and reliable learners who can work effectively in a team, follow procedures whilst adopting a patient and empathetic approach, especially when working with live animals – skills that learners will gain from undertaking our Animal Care qualifications. Through real-life scenarios and practical assessments, learners will be required to think critically, respond to unexpected situations, and make informed decisions about the health and well-being of animals. Learners will very quickly build up confidence when working with both colleagues and animals, developing safe handling techniques and recognising the need for communication, putting the animal’s wellbeing at the heart of everything that they do.
What gives you confidence that our qualification maintains high industry standards?
As the Animal Care Product Development Manager at Skills and Education Group Awards, I always strive to develop the highest-quality regulated qualifications in the animal care sector that I possibly can. I am very passionate about the sector and want to give learners the best possible start to their journey within Animal Care, taking the learning and development with them throughout their career. I always welcome feedback on our products, seek advice on how we can improve and welcome any development recommendations where there is a need in the industry. I have built up many great professional relationships within the sector, whom I go to for advice and guidance to ensure that what we offer is of a high standard, and I always leave the door open for discussions and ideas on our current and future developments.
Can you share some feedback from employers or learners about our qualification?
Policies and procedures were a real weakness of mine and working with one of your auditors who really cared and wanted me to achieve was paramount to the success of the accreditation process so
I thank you for that.
