Dog Grooming
Three new Dog Grooming qualifications have been developed in collaboration with providers in the Animal Care sector. They are designed for learners over the age of 16 with no current experience in Dog Grooming, who wish to enter the industry and expand their skillset. These are:
The Level 3 Award in Dog Grooming is an introductory qualification to the industry. Learners will gain the knowledge and skills of basic maintenance of dogs’ coats, in addition to animal health and welfare.
On completion of this qualification, learners can then progress on to the Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming or the Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. The Certificate covers the assessing and planning of dog grooming work, animal health and welfare, and the basic cutting and tidying of dogs’ coats. The Diploma is a longer qualification that covers the former two topics, plus the styling and finishing of dogs.
Learners who complete the Level 3 Certificate can then progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. Completion of the Level 3 Diploma enables learners to progress on to higher levels of dog grooming.

These are designed for learners from age pre-16 to adults living in the UK but for whom English is a second or additional language. Suitable for a range of learners including settled minority communities and refugees/asylum seekers, they are designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to communicate effectively in everyday life.
The qualifications are mapped to the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum, the National Standards for Adult Literacy and the Essential Digital Skills Framework. They are:

The three Awards are all standalone awards in their own right; however, they also make up the three units of the Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life.
Learners can progress from these qualifications on to ESOL Skills for Life qualifications at Level 1 and above, other Skills and Education Group Awards qualifications, or other BIIAB qualifications.

Quantity Surveying
Skills and Education Group Awards has also developed two new Quantity Surveying qualifications in association with UK Awards.
Quantity surveying is a professional practice that draws upon knowledge from several academic and vocational subjects and applies this knowledge to problem solving in relation to construction projects. The aim of any programme of study in quantity surveying should be to create reflective practitioners and to do this requires the development of knowledge, know-how and reflection.
Topics covered by the qualifications include construction management, construction technology, financial management, and a quantity surveying project.
The qualifications are designed for learners aged 18 and above, who have an ambition to gain a foundation of knowledge and understanding of relevant theories and principles, in addition to technical skills and capabilities associated with the practice of quantity surveying.
The new qualifications are:
The Level 4 Diploma is designed to prepare learners to progress on to higher programmes of study and related qualifications in quantity surveying. Prospective learners are required to have a GCE A Level or equivalent, or an appropriate school leavers certificate deemed by Skills and Education Group Awards to be of a similar level, prior to registering on this qualification.
Learners who successfully achieve the Level 4 Diploma can then progress on to the Level 5 Diploma. This qualification has the overall aim of confirming technical competence in quantity surveying. Successful completion of this qualification enables progression on to higher programmes of study and related qualifications in quantity surveying.
