For those learners interested in working with small animals in the land-based sector, this qualification provides a practical introduction. Learners will gain work-related skills in the area of small animal care, develop employability skills, and prepare for further training. Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of the following:
How to recognise important body parts of small animals, their function, and parts that are commonly checked for health
Optional units include: Communicating With Others at Work, Assist with Catching and Restraining a Small Animal, Groom a Small Animal, and more
Adaption to Delivery/Assessments under the Extended Extraordinary Regulatory Framework (‘EERF’):
Centres may apply for adaptions on a case by case basis, by completing a variation to assessment request form. All assessment criteria must be completed in full. Special Considerations cannot be used on a whole-cohort basis in lieu of adaptions. Practical tasks cannot be replaced with theoretical activities, therefore Centres are advised to ‘front-load’ practical assessments where this is possible.
Previously approved adaptions in this sector include:
Witness statement of a previously completed task (completed earlier in the course) coupled with a learner account of how the task was undertaken (i.e. professional discussion or written description).
Movement of Centre-devised examination to a remote examination, invigilated through video-conferencing software.
