We are delighted to announce that Jeremy (Jez) Scorer has been appointed as the new Chair of the Skills and Education Group Awards and BIIAB. Jez brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion for the hospitality and education sectors to this pivotal role.
Born into a family immersed in the licensed trade, Jez’s journey began at The Happy Man pub in Nottingham. At just 24, he became the youngest Home Brewery tenant, demonstrating his early talent for team management and training. By 30, he and his wife Amanda had expanded their portfolio, acquired an additional freehold property, and operated both with unwavering enthusiasm.
Jez’s commitment to professional development led him to co-found Charnwood Training Group in 1998, aiming to elevate standards in licensed hospitality. After 18 successful years, he joined HIT Training in 2017 as their Licensed Trade Director. During his tenure, he played a key role in establishing the UK’s first brewer apprenticeship with the University of Nottingham, a testament to his innovative approach to education.
A Familiar Face and Trusted Leader
Jez is no stranger to BIIAB, having previously served as a dedicated trustee of the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) and BIIAB. His extensive involvement in the sector includes active membership in SIBA, the Institute of Hospitality, UKHospitality, and National Pubwatch. He is also a passionate supporter of Nottingham Forest, an avid skier and golfer, and even once bungee-jumped 175 feet in his pub car park!
Vision for the Future
As the new Chair, Jez will utilise his vast experience and industry connections to guide Skills and Education Group Awards and BIIAB in their mission to provide high-quality qualifications and support the professional growth of individuals and organisations. His deep understanding of the hospitality sector and his dedication to education will be invaluable assets as we navigate the evolving landscape of skills development.
I am honoured and excited to take on the role of Chair at Skills and Education Group Awards and BIIAB. Having been involved with the organisation as a trustee, I have witnessed firsthand the impact it has on individuals and businesses. I look forward to working with the team to further enhance our offerings and contribute to the success of our learners and partners.
We warmly welcome Jeremy to his new position and look forward to his leadership in driving our organisation forward.
There’s no denying we’re passionate about what we do.
