These qualifications are designed for school/college learners who are looking to start a career in engineering and specialisation in Fabrication and Welding and adult learners wishing to upskill. They are not designed to test already competent welders and as such requirements such as welds being subject to mechanical testing (which is a condition of welding approval certificates such as ASME 9 or EN 287 (EN 9606) are not built into these qualifications. Not only would these be beyond the scope of the typical learner but it also highly unlikely schools/colleges would have the equipment available that include tensile machines, charpy impact testers and hardness machines, all of which require calibration at regular intervals, costing a great deal of money.
Adaption to Delivery/Assessments under the Extended Extraordinary Regulatory Framework (‘EERF’):
Centres may apply for adaptions on a case by case basis, by completing a variation to assessment request form. All assessment criteria must be completed in full. Special Considerations cannot be used on a whole-cohort basis in lieu of adaptions. Practical tasks cannot be replaced with theoretical activities, therefore Centres are advised to ‘front-load’ practical assessments where this is possible.
The completion of the online invigilated assessment is mandatory for this qualification and may not be altered or replaced with an alternative assessment.
